Why meditate?

For me meditation is the next step in human evolution. Our brain was developed during the time we lived in caves, when we were threatened by sabre-toothed tigers and other hazards. It is wired to secure our survival and to look out for dangers around us.
This brain of ours hasn’t changed a lot since then. But our surroundings have.Annika Meditation Never Mind Just be Ibiza

So it is still looking out for dangers and is occupied with fears and worries because this used to be a big part of its job. It won’t help if we tried to resist worrying or negative thinking. Continuing won’t help either.
So if we want to make the shift from surviving to living, we have to make a shift in our brain.

This requires training.

Meditation is the continuous shift of our focus – over and over again – away from fearful thinking to the present moment. Every day.
This is what we practice in meditation. This is what (r)evolutionizes our brain.

Face Rejuvenation Massage

The facial rejuvenation massage is a natural face lifting.
It rejuvenates the skin, improves circulation, reduces and prevents lines.
Simply put: It makes you look radiant.
But it’s more than an anti-aging secret. In our face are a lot of pressure points and massaging them helps to release tension (e.g. from grinding teeth) and it has proven to be very helpful to release headaches.

The Facial Rejuvenation Massage can either be done as a 30 or 45 minute treatment or you can add it to one of the full body treatments I offer.

Included Specials:
• Organic and aromatic oils // Organic Shea Butter
• Cupping treatment of face and décolleté
• Neck Massage

Add on:
• Vitamin C Treatment

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine and a very effective way to release deeply rooted tension, especially around the neck, shoulder and back area. It helps to reduce inflammation and it is also used to reduce cellulite.
The cups create suction which increases the blood flow, boosts the immune system and activates self-healing and well-being.

Meridian Massage

Meridian Massage
During a Meridian Massage a metal rod (made of stainless steel or brass) is moving the energy along the meridians directly on the skin. It immediately indicates blockages within the body and brings the energy back to flow.
The pressure points on your ears show stagnation and lack of energy throughout your whole body and indicate the process of the treatment.
A Meridian Massage helps to release acute and chronic complaints.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage technique that has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the meridian system.
It is a grounding and relaxing treatment that aims to recreate a natural state of balance within body and mind. Stagnated energy gets released through profound pressure and gentle stretches of muscles and tissues, and through rotation of joints.
Shiatsu shows great improvements for stress related complaints like insomnia, indigestion, PMS, back or neck pain and migraines.
Please wear or bring comfortable clothes for this treatment.

Facial Rejuvenation

The stresses and worries are written in our face: Wrinkles, greasy or dry skin, a greyish skin tone, a puffy face, tension etc. While all of this can be a result of different factors like sunlight, smoking or nutrition, stress plays a very big role in it as well.

While people go to get a massage to release tension in their neck, shoulders and back, we should keep in mind that this tension can often be caused by grinding teeth and are a result from tensed muscles in the face. The jaw muscles are for its size one of the strongest muscles in the human body. And in general are our face muscles very active.

A facial massage increases the flow of blood and oxygen. It awakens the skin, activates the cells and gives you a radiant glow. The increased circulation helps your skin to regenerate quicker from the influences from the outside world.
Working on the pressure points in the face is ideal to relax your face and even to release headaches caused by tension.

Part of the treatment are cups that are especially made for the face. I use organic, aromatic oils or organic Shea butter for the treatments. Choose the aroma of the oil you want for your treatment.

If you are curious and you want to try it out, I offer:
30 Minute face massage sessions or a
45 Minute face massage session (incl. décolleté, neck, head)

Complement your Asana practice

Yoga is a great thing! You train your mind and your body.
A student of mine who just started doing Yoga again after a few months break, said to me after class today that now after the break she realised how much strength you need and build in Yoga.

And even though the main goal of Yoga is originally not about the body, in the Western society Yoga has become mostly about the physical practice. If it’s a good or a bad thing is just another judgement, and it’s not what this blogpost is going to be about.
This post is about the things I am missing in the (physical) Asana practice.

If you are one of those practitioners who do mostly or only Yoga, like I did over the last months, due to lack of time or energy to do anything else, then there are a few things you could do if you are interested in overall physical fitness and to avoid muscular imbalances.

Pulling
Pulling is one of the things that we just don’t do in Yoga. This is mostly because with just a mat and the common used props it’s not really possible to do any pulling movements.
In my workout in the gym I now focus on exactly those movements to avoid muscular imbalances (in this case mostly shoulder area).

Jumping
Exercises for explosive strength and speed like jumping are not part of an Asana practice. Of course, if we go to a Yoga class a big part of it is relaxation, slowing down and also keeping the heart rate down. But I felt like it needs a place somewhere in my physical exercise program.

Endurance and Cardio
There are some bodyweight strength endurance positions in many Yoga styles, but one focus is to keep the breath and the heart rate even. That’s why I also started to do rope jumping and running in my weekly routine.

Climbing
Because of the pulling movements climbing is a beautiful training you can do to add to your Yoga practice. Since years I’ve been thinking that I want to start climbing but so far I haven’t found the motivation to do it! If you’re a climber, please let me know and force me to join you the next time you go! 🙂

If you have more ideas about what else is missing or what exercises are complementing the Yoga practice feel free to share your ideas with me!

“I’m too relaxed” said no one ever. In our society we’re constantly surrounded by stressors which, over time, can lead to tensions in body and mind, it weakens our immune system and it increases the chance of disease.

Massages and Yoga are beautiful ways to prevent and release stress. It is an investment in our health and sanity and in a happier life.
